Finishes are the end game in woodworking. All of the
other hard fought aesthetic and practical decisions don’t
matter if the finish doesn’t last.
|
Thickness of film,
toughness and resistance to chemicals equals longevity. The
finish is the final wear surface of the wood. It is what you
touch and see, more than the color and texture of the wood
underneath. It is the single most expensive
and labor intensive process in woodworking.
Cheap
cabinets use cheap finishes. Cheap finishes and stain processes won’t
last. Cheap finishes are a false economy and cannot
be compared to our Sherwin Williams Conversion
varnish. It
provides a much thicker build per coat, (up to 5 times as
thick as each coat of lacquer material), and unbeatable
chemical resistance.
While it costs us more to apply conversion varnish, your cabinets
look as good in
10 years the day they were installed with minimal care. We are one of the very few cabinetmakers that use this
material in compliance with the Bay Area Air Quality Control
Board and the EPA. Check the Sherwin Williams website for
details about conversion varnish.
Don't be misinformed about out of state finishes-
Conversion varnish is as good or better as the so called
out of state finishes. The real issues are much bigger in a
global marketplace. We meet and follow the guidelines from
strict local and state authorities regarding the handling,
application and disposal of these chemicals. Can out of
state providers guarantee the same environmental care?
